It’s that time of year again – the Annual Exhibition.
Once again it is being held in the Welcome Centre beside St Mary’s Church and will run Monday – Friday 7pm to 10pm and Saturday 11am to 7pm.
There is no formal meeting on Monday but it usual that members will all attend on the evening to view work.
During the exhibition itself there will be two competitions judged in the Centre itself.
The Bert Whittern Shield will up first on Tuesday 28th October. This is a print competition held with two other clubs – Barking Photographic Society and Edmonton Camera Club – with each club putting forward 15 prints. Our prints will be selected from those on display. Judging this one will be Phil Rickets.
The Grainger Trophy will follow on Wednesday 29th October. This is for projected images, and again is an inter-club competition held this year with the Barnet & Finchley Photographic Society and Potters Bar Photographic Society. The judge – Maggie Tear – will be looking at 15 projections from each club.
Finally, on Friday 31st at 7pm, it’s prize-giving night, when various items of the silver variety plus certificates will be handed out to worthy winners and runners-up by judge John Wooliams. These will include the Annual’s own awards, the Sheila Kilmartin Trophy for best b/w print, and the George Kent cup for best colour print; trophies for each Class winner; and the Derek Meredith Progress Cup for most improved snapper.
But this isn’t just any old prize-giving night, it’s a bit of a celebration – the WDP&S was established 120 years ago this year.
So although John will be serving tea and coffee as normal, do bring a bottle if you fancy!
Additionally, the Walthamstow Cine/Video club will be hosting their ever popular show on the Thursday evening.
Please encourage as many people to attend the exhibition as possible.
The best days for visitors will be the Monday and the Saturday.
